Dear all,

Thank you to the guys that have responded to the WhatsApp message regarding the Closed. Mitch I know you are not on Whattsapp so here is your chance to say YES. So far we have Shaya Lo Manzi, Reel Screamer, Kaskazi, 90% of Slice of Life, Finding Nemo, Boertjie, Wild Cat (Dawid Fourie) and Watermark.

8.90 Boats committed and Barry Hewstone is looking for a ride if anyone is short of crew.

We are looking to some of the active boats to put their hands up and be counted. The Naughty fellows have never let us down, and Bob Marlin was very happy to hear we are going to Moz. At Sea should be out the shop and I am sure we can twist Gaffer Dog’s arm. Bulldog is a lawyer so he’ll only wake up after Easter but he’ll be there. Fish Hunter, Solanki and Tjailatyd, it’s time to fish. Scallywag is back at the Rosebowl this year so we’ll work on Clive in March. (Friedel we are relying on you to bring a case of tequila from Sheila and a case of Jaeger from Hooker for bailing on us).

Appetiser: The competition cost is a steal considering the fishing grounds we will be in. Entry has been kept the same as the past two years. Your R3000 entry  gets you a fishing shirt, 7 nights’ accommodation and 6 evening meals plus happy hour and a snack at weigh in each day. We are working on the goodie bags and hope not to disappoint. Prizes will once again be cash with the usual daily bonanzas.

The first provided meal is Sunday night, and you will need to look after yourself for boat packs and drinks. Remember to take enough drinking water.

We have provisionally booked 10 chalets. Each has 2 rooms and a loft. One double bed in first room and 2 singles in the 2nd room and 2 singles in the loft] perfect for a crew of 3 or 4. Linen and towels are provided.

For those that prefer a little more comfort and luxury, there are Casas but they are priced at more than double the chalets:

  • Correia –has 4 bedrooms each with an on suite bathroom and air con – R1650 per night
  • Casa 2 – 12 sleeper with 2 rooms and on suite bathrooms , 2 lofts with 4 singles in each loft and separate bathroom  ( R1450 per night )
  • Casa 3 – 12 sleeper with 2 rooms and on suite bathrooms , 2 lofts with 4 singles in each loft and separate bathroom (R1450 per night )

Please note: If you choose to rent one of the Casas, your entry fee remains R3000 per person and you will need to arrange accommodation with Yolanda Botha yolanda@chicuanga.co.za. You will be credited with R150 pp per night which is the accommodation portion of your entry.  To help you decide see the layout below:

You are welcome to book your hut through the organising committee on a first come first serve basis. Please send to  Mark mark@mccservice.co.za and copy Colin colin@greensteel.co.za

As with all competitions we need sponsors. A little here a little there goes a long way to pay for happy hour drinks, snacks, prizes etc. We understand times are tight but there are many potential sponsors out there. Please have a look within your own organisations too and get back to Mark if you can assist.

Finally, you might think it is still 5 months away to the competition but we are under pressure from the lodge, so please can we ask the boats that have committed to pay your entry fees ASAP so we can secure the accommodation deposit.

Many thanks and tight lines to all those fishing the Rosebowl, inter provincials and interclubs over the next few months.
