2015 Rosebowl Captain’s Report

Thanks to ERSBC as they were the hosts. The venue was very good, the organisation of the tournament was top class with the general atmosphere being very jovial and friendly. The guys put a great competition together and it would be hard and disingenuous to find fault with it. Well done East Rand, you are a great bunch of guys. In particular Frank and Ivan who seemed to carry the brunt of the load. As a venue Durban would be excellent point of departure for developments as the full spectrum of fishing disciplines can be exercised. The quality of the fish that made it to the weigh scale was very good.

The weather allowed us to get onto the ocean for 3.5 days as Monday afternoon and the Tuesday were blowouts.

The Nomads team really stepped up to the plate from the start of the tournament and very good catches were recorded throughout the competition. Mark got a great Wahoo of 20kg. Steve Barbe and Sean both got sailfish and Ballie got a 20kg Cuda on 6kg line. In addition a number of really nice Tuna of 12 to 16 kg were landed by many boats. Nomads won the Rose Bowl trophy and had a number of  our boats were in the top 10 as well. The top anglers for the competition both male and female represented Nomads. Well done to Elmarie and Jorg. It was great to see Wade skipper for the toppies and keep them awake on the boat, well sometimes at least.

A note that has to be made and emphasized, is that without a hint of a doubt Nomads has grown into a superb team with a fantastic team spirit. It takes the hard yards, such as coming 3rd at the last Rose Bowl, financial woes of the past few years, boats being pinched, lack of general support from the members at club functions and many other tribulations that have got us to where we are. We now have a rock solid core from which to build going forward and it is thanks to the committee members their wives and our chairman Dave Martin. Let’s give them the support they deserve.

Tight lines guys and once again it is an absolute pleasure fishing with you. Special mention to Threesome, brilliant fishing and well done.

Regards,
Mitch Moore

2015 Rosebowl News-1

Hi everyone,

On behalf of SGDSAA, the committee, would like to wish all the members a prosperous 2015 with plenty fish caught and records broken.

We have barley settled back into the rhythm of working and the calendars are already getting full.

There are 2 big SGDSAA events I would like to bring your attention to and ask for your response to these ASAP.

The first being the Bi-Annual SGDSAA awards evening on Saturday 31 January 2015, where all anglers who have represented the Province, SADSAA and South Africa will be recognised for their achievements. Family, friends and all clubs members are welcome to attend. For catering purposes I require your RSVP immediately and payment of R200,00 per person, (please use your name and club as reference).

The next SGDSAA event, an annual event, which each club gets a turn to organise is the Interclub (also known as the “Rosebowl”). With only 7 weeks to go before this event takes place in Durban, ERBFC still have a lot of preparation to do and have promised the anglers this is going to be a comp with a difference, and the competitors will not be let down. I am also assisting the committee in hosting this event.

To ensure you are not disappointed in anyway what so ever with your entry or what you receive during the comp, please assist by sending your entry ASAP to myself or Marina at ERBFC.

The shirt order, goodie bags order will need to be placed before the end of January, to ensure you receive the correct size shirt and an individual goodie bag filled with goodies from sponsors please ensure those entries are received no later than 27 January 2015. We are really working on some ideas and goodies for you all to make this a memorable event. Our focus is on the angler Back to Basics theme !

If your entry is late we cannot guarantee your shirt will fit! Or you will receive a complete Goodie bag!

If you have not yet entered, send your entry off to lynadams@mweb.co.za  before you miss out on this once in a life time experience.

The entry fee is now confirmed and all evening meals are included for the week. Sunday to Friday.
The final rules will be e-mailed shortly as well as accommodation contacts etc.
Please ask your anglers to get their forms in to Marina a.s.a.p. As this will assist with the goodies box giveaways that ERBFC are planning.
As entry forms are received a set of way points will be e mailed to the Skipper.

2015 Rosebowl – Anchoring

Martin Du Plessis will be giving a talk at TSC on all the points on what you must and must not do when anchoring. Where and where not to anchor!!!

TSC Clubhouse, 10 September 2014 at 18h30

SGDSAA Development - Anchoring

This will benefit everyone who will be fishing the SGDSAA Interclub next year March as you will be allowed to anchor at certain times and at certain places, if the conditions allow. You will need to know this for your own safety (we don’t want boat being turned over because of skipper error not knowing how to use an anchor).

The bar will be stocked and wors rolls will be available.

Looking forward to seeing all.
