Billfish Release Procedure

The Nomads Billfish Release and Photo Procedure

PHOTO PROCEDURE – Each team is required to use their own digital camera. They are responsible for the proper operation of this camera and are urged to have a backup camera. The photos must conclusively show the release AND the species of the fish.

To be counted as a release, the digital photo(s) should indicate the following:

  • The photo should indicate the date and time of the event;
  • Positively identify the fish;
  • Clearly indicate that the leader or swivel has touched the tip of the rod, or a crewmember has grabbed the leader.
  • Clearly indicate that the fish has been released correctly.

The skipper should then confirm the tip/tag by radio to Beach Control. We request that all digital photos should be taken with a camera with a removable digital card and/or a suitable USB cable to assist with downloading the photos. This is done to simplify the process for the weigh master to identify conformation of the above criteria by the boat claiming the release.

 All of these photos CONCLUSIVELY show the release and the species. Please note, that for obvious reasons, these photos do not show the “special” competition indicators which may be in force for various competitions.

If you have any questions, please ask BEFORE the competition begins.
